Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) was named after the renowned sage and philosopher Sree Sankaracharya. The University was founded in the year 1993 in a place called Kalady in the state of Kerala. It is a non-affiliating University. The University is involved in imparting education through its academic courses, and n works of publication and preservation of manuscripts and books in Sanskrit and other languages.
The University has nine Regional Centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Panmana, Thuravoor, Ettumanoor, Kalady (Main Campus), Thrissur, Tirur, Koyilandy and Payyannur. The primary objective of the University is to impart intensive, extensive and higher education in various branches of Sanskrit learning as well as in Indology, Indian Philosophy, and Indian languages.
The University offers numerous courses ranging from Undergraduate to PhD level. Undergraduate courses are offered in the disciplines of Sanskrit Core, BFA (Painting & Mural Painting), Music, and Dance (Bharathanattyam, Mohiniyattam). Postgraduate courses are offered in the fields of languages like, Malyalam, Sanskrit Literatue and Language, Arabic, Hindi, English, and in the areas of Social Work, Dance (Bharathanattyam, Mohiniyattam), Psychology, Vedic Studies, Philosophy, Urdu, Sanskrit Nyaya, Sanskrit Vedanta, Comparative Literature & Linguistics, Theatre, Music, and Dalit Studies. PhD courses are also offered by the University. PG Diploma courses in Tourism and Hindi Translation are provided by SSUS. Integrated M Phil/PhD academic courses are also available.
