The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) Kerala is the 7th SIET in the country. The Institute was established on the 8th of September 1999 under the Travancore Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1951. The institute is responsible for the planning, research, production and evaluation of educational software like video, audio programs and computer multimedia.

The SIET Kerala is also purposed to impose schemes to generate teaching technologies and learning process in the modern milieu. For this purpose the institution utilizes popular means of mass communication like television, radio and internet. Infotainment being the keyword for this state government institution; it also has tools like satellite communication and multimedia to impart education to higher education students. The institute has 16 members. The Secretary for General Education is the Vice Chairman of the Institute.

The main objectives of the State Institute of Education Technology Kerala are to focus on the development of education based on technological applications of the following tools:
  • Educational Radio.
  • Educational Television.
  • Computer Assisted Instruction/Computer Managed Instruction Audio/Video Cassettes
  • Satellite Communication.
  • Multimedia
  • Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Internet
